Built in the 1800’s, Sea Dog Cottage promises a truly first rate holiday experience which blends the very best of the old with stylish modern fittings and fixtures, this Portland Stone cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms but is not suitable for under fives due to steep stairs in the property and garden. The cottage has recently been refurbished and redecorated. March 2021 the top floor master bedroom was completely refurbished . It’s know has an en-suite and the new roof makes the ceiling height much better .
The cottage is under the same ownership as Cove and Sunset long let cottages, for those wanting a longer stay on the island of a month or more, and provides an equally high standard of accommodation for our guests.
Sea Dog is found in Chiswell just five minutes from the Sailing Academy and a stone’s throw from Chesil Beach, Cove House Inn and a good number of restaurants. Bus and taxi services are found in the immediate vicinity and there is on-street parking outside the property.
Had a great week weather was fab . Cottage is home from home. Helen has thought of everything. Welcome pack a real surprise. Just another touch. Chiswell really grows on you a great base for exploring the area. (Melvin, Vanessa and Harvey the dog, Herts)
The cottage name celebrates the now extinct breed of “Portland Sea Dogs”. These web-footed dogs were trained to recover lines attached to sunken brandy barrels and were equally renowned for their life saving ability.
Happily the owners will accept one small to medium sized dog or cat, (conditions apply).
Sea Dog Cottage boasts a really spacious lounge with wood burner stove and central heating….. a dining area seats four and guests can enjoy flat screen TV with Freeview, CD/ DVD player, iPod dock and Wi-Fi.
Next door, a brand new kitchen…. has an electric oven and ceramic hob, dishwasher, washer dryer, fridge freezer, microwave and coffee machine and of course all the usual pots and pans, utensils ~ just everything!
Upstairs on the first floor….there is a twin bedded room with plenty of cupboard and hanging space. And next door a family bathroom, just finished to the highest standards, complete with bath, separate electric shower cubicle and toilet.
Guests also benefit from the inclusion in the price of all linen, bath towels, beach towels and bathrobes! That’s luxury…..
Just up the final steep stairs we reach the light and airy master bedroom ….with king size double with en-suite built in wardrobe and a chest of draws.
Back on the ground floor and leading from a lounge door, there are more hidden surprises….
firstly, an “antique” deck area with table and chairs for four complete with BBQ extends to a walled courtyard garden ~ with stone steps…. leading up to the Owl’s Mount and a huge almost totally secluded upper garden.
Believe me ~ this is an absolute gem….
The Owl’s Mount is a grassy knoll overlooking the cottage. In ancient times it was called “Mound Owl” (also Mount Howle which is appropriate for a Sea Dog I suppose) and tradition has it that it is the burial mound of a Viking leader (hooray!) or of two Saxon Princes’(boo!) – with thanks to Stuart Morris – the Island’s historian .
You’d be barking not to stay at Sea Dog….
